Plants vs. Zombies: Official Guide to Protecting Your Brains is a book that contains information for Plants vs. Zombies, Plants vs. Zombies Adventures and Plants vs. Zombies 2.

The book is divided into two sections: The Government Handbook and «Crazy Dave’s Much, Much, Better Guide to Protecting your Brains». In the Government introduction, Crazy Dave and the ill-advised Government introduces themselves. Crazy Dave quotes that the notes in both halves are made by him.
It is quite similar to the Suburban Almanac, except the plants are being referred to as if they were more of them, as to the real Suburban Almanac, it talks about the plants as if there was only one of each. It describes some stories about the plants more than the Almanac does.

- When the zombies are listed, the Zomboni is absent, and «Mullet Zombie» is shown instead. Mullet Zombie makes no appearance in Plants vs. Zombies, however, his hairstyle resembles that of the zombie driving the Zomboni.
- All of the plants that originally appeared in Plants vs. Zombies (except for Split Pea) say exactly what they do in-game, but all of the new plants that appear in Plants vs. Zombies 2 (including Split Pea) simply say random trivia about that plant’s life.
- Additionally, Grave Buster and Split Pea are listed in the Plants vs. Zombies 2 section of the plants chapter, and are skipped over in the Plants vs. Zombies section.
- This suggests that the book was written before Plants vs. Zombies 2 gameplay was revealed, and therefore was not possible to know what the plants did.
- However, it shows the Magnifying Grass, which was revealed to be a Far Future plant afterwards.

- At the end of the book, there is an advertisement for Bloom and Doom Seed Co.. On the advertisement, there is a quote that says «They’re coming to get you Barbara!» This quote is a reference to the 1968 zombie horror movie Night of the Living Dead.
- The book has a lot of different tape in random places, although most of it is duct tape.
- On page 122, it makes a reference to the Bill and Ted or Doctor Who series, (where the main protagonists travel in time by using a British phone booth) as Crazy Dave writes «So, how do I travel through the future? In my time-travelling motorhome thing of course! How else do you think I’d travel through time? In a phone booth?
- The sprite for coffee bean uses the sprite in the Chinese exclusive version of Plants vs. Zombies 2, despite the fact that the book isn’t Chinese.

Plants vs. Zombies («Растения против зомби») – двумерная компьютерная игра, доступная в нескольких версиях на нескольких игровых платформах. Первый вариант игры был выпущен в 2009 году.
Игровой процесс заключается в необходимости защитить собственную территорию от атак зомби с помощью разнообразных растений с разными функциями. Игра одновременно простая и забавная, что обеспечило ей положительную реакцию критиков и успех у пользователей.
Книга Саймана Свотмана с иллюстрациями Адама Хоулинга «Plants vs. zombies: практическое руководство по защите ваших мозгов» представляет собой своего рода бонус к игре и одновременно руководство к ней.
Формально книга состоит из двух частей: «официальной», представляющей собой «одобренное правительством» руководство по выживанию во время зомби-апокалипсиса (впрочем, речь идет исключительно и только об игровом варианте развития событий – так что с целью более «серьезного» подхода к гипотетической проблеме «восставших мертвецов» это «руководство» не адаптировано) и «дополнительной», составленной одним из персонажей игры, Безумным Дейвом. Части отличаются оформлением: если «официальная часть» выполнена в едином стиле и по единому стандарту, то «дополнительная» представляет из себя довольно пестрые страницы. Впрочем, в официальной части встречаются комментарии Безумного Дейва, которые создают ощущение связанности обеих «видов» руководства.
В принципе, в игре есть «встроенные» справочники по видам зомби и растений, но фанатам игры, конечно, будет довольно забавно увидеть виртуальное измерение в виде реальной книги.
В книге указан возрастной ценз «12+» и рекомендация «для среднего школьного возраста» — довольно логичные, т.к. не смотря на потенциальную жестокость выбранной темы, игра (и книга, соответственно) не являются чрезмерно кровавыми, мерзкими или пугающими.
Что касается моих личных впечатлений, то они в целом положительные. Фанатом игры не являюсь (видела несколько раз, как играют племянники), но тема зомби весьма интересна, так что было забавно почитать о видах зомби (особенно о том, что не нравится конкретным видам) и забавные советы (например, об обнаружении зомби или необходимости сохранения постоянной бдительности). Забавна и краткая «история живых мертвецов» с хронологической шкалой, начинающейся с «до н.э.».
Единственные претензии к внешнему оформлению – за требуемую цену хотелось бы твердый переплет (а не интегральный) и шитый (а не клееный) книжный блок. Понятно, что с точки зрения полиграфии издание довольно насыщенное и разнообразное — но масштаб у него все-таки не А4 (чуть больше стандартной книги), а страниц — всего 176.
